"IT'S EASY TO PREVENT LITTER"

Litter just isn’t natural. It is an illegal, preventable environmental problem in Berkeley County and the Eastern Panhandle that hurts innocent people, domestic animals & wildlife. An environment filled with trash and litter shows a lack of community pride.

Litter is a safety hazard. It is a breeding ground for fire & disease. Ingesting litter can cause injury or death to pets, wild animals & farm animals.
Litter is a breeding ground for rats and disease-causing bacteria.
Litter causes injury and accidents to people, especially on our local roads, highways, waterways, and recreational areas.

Litter won’t go away unless each and every one of us takes responsibility to not litter.

Litterbugs are everywhere. Most people don’t think about litter, or believe someone else will pick it up for them.
Simple things each of us can do to reduce and eventually eliminate litter:

	√	Set an example for others by not littering.
	√	Carry a litter bag in your car.
	√	Cover and secure any vehicle carrying a load.
	√	At recreation areas, leave the area clean for the next person.
	√	Securely cover trash containers.
	√	Recognize that cigarette butts are a dangerous, toxic form of pollution taking up to 12 years to break down.
