Berkeley Community Pride volunteers, volunteers from the VA, and volunteers from Quad Graphics join in supporting this activity. Teams of 4 on two, two-hour shifts from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM in the south parking lot of the Martinsburg Mall.

Community recycling event to raise awareness of responsible waste management, focused on recycling in Berkeley County. All types of paper is collected, shredded at the Quad Graphics plant in Martinsburg, and sold to recycling. In addition to promoting recycling, these projects raises funds for Berkeley Community Pride activities.

Berkeley County Schools, Science Fair; Berkeley County Board volunteers serve as judges in the Environmental Sciences division of the County Science Fair

Cash/certificate awards are presented by Berkeley Community to three students in each level of the Science Fair in recognition of excellence.

April 21, 2007

Berkeley Community Pride volunteers, including individual volunteers and volunteer groups from the community

WV statewide "Adopt a Highway" cleanup; Roadsides which are not part of the "Adopt a Highway" are designated for pickup/litter reduction.

Berkeley County Elementary, Intermediate, and Middle schools, and, two Private schools, St. Josephs and Faith Christian Academy; Berkeley Community Pride volunteers; Martin’s and Weis Food Stores, Martinsburg

Berkeley Community Pride volunteers collected paper grocery bags from two food stores, Weis and Martins, and labeled them with the BCP/United Way logos. The bags are then distributed to the participating schools to draw anti-litter, pro-Earth Day messages. The completed bags are returned to the stores for display and distribution to their customers. BCP also makes a cash donation to each of the participating area schools for the use at their discretion in supplementing art or science curriculum materials.

South Middle School Recycling Club; Berkeley Community Pride volunteers

Berkeley Community Pride and Teachers at South Middle School established a Recycling Club, currently comprised of 30 students. The students collect paper throughout the school for recycling using large cardboard collection boxes donated by Berkeley Community Pride. The students weigh the paper collected, graph their progress, and make environmental correlations. Berkeley Community Pride volunteers then collect and transport the paper to be shredded and sold through Quad Graphics, Martinsburg.
